Links to Fish in the News from Robert in New Jersey. |
Hi Tom & Nevin, I promised something special this week and I think I delivered even though I was sweating it till the last minute. To start off with not 1 but 18 videos of fish tanks you have to see to believe. I am following that up with lots of scientific news. Last but not least a slide show of Mermaids in the desert. Your Friend, Robert In NJ
18 videos you have to see to believe.

Serpae Tetras under a Driftwood Ornament |
These Serpaes have been living for a few weeks in a 55-gallon aquarium with Large Angelfish, Sterbai Cory Catfish, and a few Bushymouth Plecostomus. For a long time in many places Serpaes have been described as mid-water Tetras. But these Serpaes stay right at the bottom of the aquarium water, where they joust with each most of the day, as can be seen in this video. The ornament is a ceramic replica of a driftwood stump, and it is very beautiful, non-toxic, hollow, light-weight, and the Serpaes prefer to stay under it. Click here to buy this and other ceramic driftwood aquarium ornaments. If you have questions about these fish, this aquarium, these ornaments, or anything else about pet fish, call and talk with Tom and Nevin during the next live show. |

The OB Mbunas are now about 2" Long. |
Yes, here are 7, or 8 if you count the one at lower left, of the OB Mbuna cichlids that have grown up in Tom's 29-gallon aquarium. They were spawned in early March. There are still over 20 of them. It's been a little bit over 3-months since they came out of their mother's mouth, and soon they'll be too big to all live in 29-gallons of water. Tom may keep a few. The rest will go to the aquariums at AquariumFish.net to be sold. Tom feels sentimental about them and really wishes he could keep them all. |
|
 |
|
Bob lives with the young OB Mbunas. |
Big Bob is a Pseudotropheus Maylandia greshakei, and said he's not the least bit sentimental about seeing the OB Mbunas leave. He chases them around most of the time. In this picture the young OB Mbunas dive between the Cichlid Stones as Big Bob swims over them. |

Satellite views of Green Atolls ?? |
Shot from a space satellite hundreds of miles above the earth? The lower picture is a close-up of the atoll on the right in the upper picture. Tom and Nevin will have some interesting comments about these pictures during this week's show. Click here to learn more about the fascinating subject of atolls that were first explained by Charles Darwin. |

Two of the New Serpae Tetras Sparring. |
The picture just above shows two of the new and very young Serpae Tetras that live in the 55-gallon aquarium with the Angelfish, Sterbai Cory Catfish, and a few Bushymouth Plecostomus Catfish. All of these fish get along fine, but the Serpae Tetras like to constantly spar with each other. They do this by swimming side-by-side very close to each other and wagging their tails in each others face, which is considered to be great fun by Serpaes. |

|
Ready to Go! |
This young female OB Mbuna read the comment above on this page that she may be moving soon. So she put on her green eye-liner and said she's ready to go. This green coloration is real, and neither Nevin nor Tom have ever seen this color before on any Mbuna, which is a large group of fish species from Lake Malawi in East Africa. |
