Alex S. asks about keeping a Betta, 5 Pearl Danios, a Plecostomus, and one Goldfish in a 10-gallon aquarium?
Ronnie from Missouri calls, and we talk more about the Betta Fish that he breeds. Ronnie explains that Half-Moon Bettas are very difficult to breed, which he learned from a Betta Breeder in Thailand, who sold Bettas to Ronnie and eventually began to tell Ronnie some of his Betta Fish secrets. Ronnie explains why he thinks Plaket Bettas are ideal for many hobbyists.
Male Plaket Betta Fish.   Ronnie emailed us this picture of a female Royal Blue Plaket Betta. Click here to see a list with more Betta Fish on Ronnie's Web Site.
Segment Two.
We continue talking with Ronnie about Plaket Betta Fish, and why they are very hardy, but Half-Moon Bettas are very delicate. Ronnie compares the coloration and behaviors of Plaket Bettas and ordinary Bettas. Ronnie also mentions that one of his older male Bettas makes clicking sounds like Rebekah's male Betta makes.
Paul F. sent us an email, that says he likes Pet Fish Talk. He has a large aquarium with an under gravel filter, that he turned off! Now he wants to know if he should remove it? Click here for more information about how to remove an under gravel filter.
Aaron from Ohio calls again, and we continue to talk about fish for his 50-gallon aquarium with 4 Platies, 7 Serpae Tetras, 2 Yoyo Loaches, 2 Kuhli Loaches, one Bristle Nose Pleco, and a few Black Mollies, that Aaron hopes will eat the Hair Algae growing on his Java Ferns. We discus adding Hatchet Fish. Nevin suggests Silver Tip Tetras. Tom suggests Corydoras Catfish, but Aaron says Cory Cats are kind of expensive for his budget. Tom mentions Barbs, and Nevin mentions Danios. Tom says Giant Danios would be a good choice. Aaron asks about Rosy Barbs. Click here to buy all of these fish.
Segment Three.
Back to Paul's email, which says he get lots of bubbles on the surface of his aquarium, which Tom says is caused by the waste from the under gravel filter. Click here for more about gravel washing. Click here for information about keeping live plants in an aquarium with 1/4" of gravel.
J,K. has a 12" Oscar alone in a 30-gallon aquarium that sits on the bottom of the aquarium. Tom and Nevin agree that this Oscar needs a much bigger aquarium and should be given the Recommended Treatment. Click here for more about the Recommended Treatment.
We also get a question about a 12" to 15" Pacu in a 29-gallon aquarium! Tom preaches about giving fish the proper home !!
Gineen has a goldfish that has a missing gill cover, and she wonders if the gill cover will grow back?
Mike from California says he called last week about buying a Mystery Snail, which he did and he likes his new snail a lot. Now Mike wonders about BIO-Spira. Click here for more information about BIO-Spira.
Jim from West Virginia calls and we talk with him about his 20-gallon long aquarium with an Eclipse Hood. His aquarium contains 4 Zebra Danios, 7 Neon Tetras, 2 Cardinal Tetras, 4 White Clouds, 4 Corydoras Catfish, 3 or 4 Fancy Guppies, 3 Mystery Snails, and two Dwarf Gouramis. We talk about the compatibility of these fish.
Segment Four.

Dennis from Spokane, Washington, calls and says he had a good but wet week. He also says that he got 3 male and 5 female Mollies, including some pregnant females that have already released lots of baby Mollies, but most of those babies were eaten by his White Clouds !! Tom talks about seeing Mollies in the Salton Sea. Jim also asks about keeping plants in his new aquariums with only 1/4" of gravel. Click here for more about how to do that.
Justin from New York says he recently got a Male Betta fish that is not eating.
Evan from Colorado calls and says he got the Mystery Snail that we talked with him about last week. Evan says his new snail is nocturnal. We also talk about the lighting in Evan's aquarium, including the aluminum foil he has wrapped around the fluorescent bulb. Tom gives Evan the usual warning about being careful with inventions and being sure they are safe. Tom reminisces about talking on phone long ago with the inventor of Silicone Sealant.
