George Schmidt who built and
owns the Piranha Realm Public Aquarium
in the Mills Mall near St. Louis,
Missouri.

George Schmidt
has been an aquarist for
45-years. During that time he has built
many plywood aquariums and raised many
types of fish, including Piranhas,
Oscars, Uarus, Juruparis, Clown
Knifefish, Chocolate Cichlids, and many
others.
These fish are some 6" long

color with bright orange on
their bodies and dark red
fins.
Piranha Realm Public
Aquarium has twelve 4000-gallon
aquariums that George built. Those
aquariums contain the following fish.

Shown above are some
of the 4000-gallon aquariums

aquarium on the far right
contain the Red Belly
Piranhas.
This picture shows
one of the 4000-gallon
aquariums under
construction. You can see
the concrete blocks under
the aquarium, which will end
up weighing over 16-tons.
During the interview George
said the aquariums measure
about 16-feet from left to
right, 6-feet from front to
back, and 4 feet from top to
bottom.
These aquariums have lots of
decorations including large
rocks and tree branches, and
one aquarium even has a
large tree stump.
Over 40-species of fish have
spawned in these aquariums,
and many of the aquariums
have parent-fish defending
their fry. Some baby fish
are being raised in a
floating net.
