About
Dr. Tim Hovanec Dr. Tim
Hovanec was the Chief Science
Officer at Marineland Aquarium Products
for 17 years. During that time, using
modern DNA techniques like the kind you
see on TV shows like CSI etc, he
re-wrote the story of who is responsible
for nitrification in aquaria. These scientific discoveries lead
him to develop BioSpira and other
break-through products for the aquarium
industry. He holds over 10 US and
Foreign patents, has been published in
the peer-reviewed scientific literature
and is a frequent guest speaker at
scientific and hobby conferences. For 5 years, Dr Hovanec was also
the President of PIJAC, the Pet Industry
Joint Advisory Council, which is a
Washington-based industry group that
promotes the ownership of pets and on
the board for 12 years. Dr Hovanec is an Associate
Faculty member at Saddleback College
teaching in the Aquarium and Aquaculture
Science Program. Before Marineland, Dr Hovanec
spent 12 years as an aqua-culturist
working in the US Peace Corps and for a
California-based intensive
hybrid-striped bass company. Now Dr Hovanec has formed his own
aquarium products manufacturing company
called DrTim's Aquatics whose philosophy
of "Science Based Solutions" forms the
core of each product which is to bring
real solutions based on real science to
the hobby of tropical fish-keeping.
